BARDA
RECENT WORKS
OPENING
RECEPTION:
TUESDAY | JUNE
06, 2000 | 6-9PM
GALLERY@49 is pleased to announce the opening
of BARDA’s second solo exhibition at the
gallery on June 6, 2000. The show will present
a selection of recent bronze, lucite and cast
marble sculptures as well as a new series of
mixed media drawings of the "Zodiac Collection".
The exhibition will be on view through June
26.
In his most recent sculptures and works on paper
whose subject is a thoroughly personal vision
of the zodiac signs, Barda reveals once again
his lifelong interest in the rendering of emotional
and spiritual exaltation, as well as his own
painstaking concern with anatomical realism.
An enthusiastic admirer of Classical Greek and
Hellenistic statuary, Barda adopts the concept
of archetype, reinterpreting it in the Art Deco
stylistic vocabulary, and bringing it back into
concretion through a complex and highly imaginative
creative process. Both, his sculptures and drawings
are powerful visual metaphors expressing mankind’s
spirit and energy. "My interpretation of
the
zodiac signs is really an exploration of the
human soul", says Barda. "I see the
horoscope as a twelve-faceted mirror reflecting
the subconscious self portrait of humankind
evolved during thousands of years of experience".
In his intensely expressive sculptures and drawings,
Barda fuses classical antiquity, Romantic sensation,
and the swirling energy of Baroque, transforming
these models into intriguing compositions that
are uniquely his. Shaped by emotion and fantasy,
Barda’s figures are eloquent expressions
of sensuality and mystery, displaying not only
the artist’s outstanding technical virtuosity
but also his easiness at working with very different
kinds of materials.
"Recent
Works " will be on display June 06, 2000 - June
26, 2000 at Gallery@49, 322 West 49th Street
(Between 8th and 9th Ave). Opening reception
for the artist will be held Tuesday, June 06,
2000 from 6 to 9 PM.
