"Beggar
Girl", 2001
pen & ink, collage, watercolor
on handmade paper, 32"x24"
Gavin’s
watercolour interpretation of a Daguerreotype of
this Paris character. Gavin firmly believed that
the art of the Daguerreotype was loaned to the real
world for only a brief moment – a moment which
was not measured in seconds, hours or even years.
The timeless quality of this captured moment embraced
the notion that nothing ever dies, but just projects
itself into the now of contemporary, subconscious
thought, and, there-fore lives on. Daguerreotypes
preserve the past forever. |
